Banks re-open in Ijebu axis after shutdown
The banks in the Ijebu Ode and Ijebu Igbo areas which have shut their doors to customers for over a month for fear of attacks from armed robbers, have now re-opened for business.
According to the state police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, the new Police Commissioner in the state, Valentine Ntomchukwu, has ordered that a new Armoured Personnel Carrier, provided by Governor Ibikunle Amosun be released, to provide security for the banks in the Ijebu area and its environs.
He said with the development, business activities had picked up, compared to what it was some weeks back.
Adejobi said the police boss had earlier held a meeting with the Bankers Forum and the Police Community Relations Committee leaders on the security challenges and prolonged closure of banks in the area.
The bankers agreed to re-open their banks after the police commissioner released a brand new APC and two Nissan Hilux vans to aid the performance of the police.
He said, “The police commissioner, while appraising the security arrangement with his senior officers in his Eleweran office on Monday, reiterated his commitment to smooth operations of banks and other commercial activities in Ijebu Ode and its environs and Ogun State in general.
“He said that he will not accept or tolerate any security lapses from any police formation(s) or officers in Ijebu Ode and Ogun State at large.
“He, however, commended the Bankers Forum for the understanding and support given to the police on the issue, and re-opening of banks in the Ijebu areas for normal economic activities to commence.”

A four-man gang of kidnappers abduct newspaper distributor in Ijebu ode
A four-man gang of kidnappers has abducted a major newspaper distributor, Mrs Funlayo Ajayi, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
We gathered that the woman, who is in her late 50s, was reportedly traveling in her Nissan salon car to collect the day’s consignment of newspapers at the distribution point along Ejinrin Road, in Ijebu Ode, when the four gunmen blocked her car and abducted her.

She operates her business under the name of Joke Agency in Lagos garage area and was popularly known as Mama Joke.
She was said to be in company of one her aides at the time of the incident.
The kidnappers were said to have reached out to Ajayi’s family members and demanded N40 million ransom.
The victim was said to have been allowed to speak with family members and associates.
It was learned that she told one of the associates: “I do not know where I am. All they are telling is that they want something from me.”
It was gathered that the case had been reported to the police at Ijebu Ode Area Headquarters, Igbeba.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached at press time for comments.
